A Historical Gem:
The Haight's story began with a simple need for a wedding space, but it quickly evolved into something truly special. Housed in an industrial warehouse dating back to 1890, originally known as the Elgin Storage and Transfer Company, The Haight has undergone meticulous preservation and restoration. The venue's rich history serves as the foundation for its distinct look and provides a captivating backdrop for countless intimate gatherings.
The Elgin Storage and Transfer Company operated for over 25 years, functioning as a vital transportation hub for Elgin watch factory workers. Throughout the years, the building has served various purposes, including housing the Elgin Saddlery and Milk Company, the Elgin Sanitary Milk Company, the Cable Piano Company, and the Ludwig Dairy, which was eventually purchased by Dominick's food stores. In April of 1985, John Haight Sr. acquired the building, and it has been in the Haight family ever since.
With 12,000 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor space, The Haight offers an intimate and versatile setting for events. The venue's industrial charm is accentuated by exposed brick walls and open-beamed ceilings, creating a captivating ambiance. From the original stable windows to the wide wood baseboards and wood doors, every corner of The Haight tells a story of its illustrious past.
Step Back in Time:
Upon entering The Haight, you'll find the larger getting ready suite, which was once the second-floor apartment of A.C. Muntz and his family. This space retains its original flooring, showcasing beautiful oak and maple features. The kitchen, complete with its original wood case cabinetry, provides a glimpse into the past. Additionally, the venue boasts a wainscot bathroom featuring its first water heater, a true testament to the building's historical significance.
As you ascend to the third floor, you'll discover a private workspace that remains in the possession of the Haight family. This floor, once used for storing hay and oats for the horses, reflects a bygone era while offering a personal touch to the venue. The Haight family's connection to the building and their dedication to creating memorable experiences for guests infuse the venue with an authentic and welcoming atmosphere.
